Hi. My name is Christy, and I have buying fatigue.
When my kids were little, I went through that phase where you wake up one day and realize everything in your house is apparently toxic. (Truthfully, it was after watching a couple of Netflix documentaries, you know the ones.)
So I tossed it all… the pantry, the cleaning products, the beauty products. If it had a label, I read it. If I couldn’t pronounce it, I threw it away. I was basically a one-woman recall department.
I even got my husband on board.
And for a while, we did okay.
But it took all of my time. Shopping. Meal prep. Choosing non-toxic cleaning products. Finding a decent diaper option. Replacing lawn chemicals, paint, flooring, toys… every decision was a research project. One of my kids also has severe food allergies, so everything needed a second pass with a fine-tooth comb.
And… have you ever tried grocery shopping with four kids under five?
It’s like pushing a giant screaming octopus down an aisle. You’re desperately searching for the ketchup while one of the octopus arms manages to get loose and bust open an entire row of glass spaghetti sauce jars.
(Yes. That actually happened. I apologized, they mopped.)
Eventually, I turned into a zombie trying to do everything the ‘right’ way.
Spoiler alert:
The kids LIVE if they eat Nutella sandwiches and Goldfish crackers.
And it’s easier than fighting over broccoli.
So that’s what I bought. The stuff they would actually eat.
Now, you could say I got lazy.
But between me and you… I just gave up.
Trying to decipher labels is exhausting.
And yes, yes I know “Just download the app that scans all the things.”
There are a million apps.
Those exhaust me too.
Now that my kids are older, grocery shopping feels a little less like combat… but I still feel lost. I wander the aisles, pick up things that look “healthy-ish,” put them back, grab them again, then sigh and buy something “fine” because at some point I have to leave the store.
What are my options?
Buy a farm?
Grow my own food?
Make everything from scratch?
Sure. I could.
I also could run an ultramarathon.
But let’s be honest… I’m not doing that either.
So where exactly does that leave me…the Chief Purchasing Officer of my family… when it comes to finding products and companies I can trust?
Nowhere.
But I still have to buy things.
I still have to walk into the grocery store every few days.
I still need clothes and shoes for kids who grow like weeds.
I need cleaning products. Dog food. Shampoo. Dish soap.
I can’t just NOT buy things.
I’m no expert.
But I want to make good choices for myself, my family, and the planet.
And from talking to friends, family, and everyone else in my orbit —
you do too.
That’s exactly why I started 4RYL.
To build a community of real people, real companies, and real brands who want honesty over hype.
If you see the 4RYL logo, it means I checked it out first.
I read the labels.
I dug into the ingredients.
I asked annoying questions so you don’t have to.
If it’s in my cart, it meets the standards I use to buy for my own family.
It’s simple:
-
Real People. Real Products. Real Companies. Real Life.
Because we all deserve honesty without the overwhelm.
Welcome to the journey.
Let’s figure out what’s real… together.
-Christy
