Grow the Sage You Actually Cook With

Kitchen Sage is the classic culinary sage most of us recognize from stuffing, poultry, sausage and savory fall recipes. This heirloom variety produces soft, silvery-green leaves with the earthy, slightly pine-like flavor sage is known for.

Unlike many kitchen herbs, sage is a perennial in zones 4-9, so a well-established plant can come back year after year. It's also drought tolerant once established and prefers well-draining soil without a lot of fuss.

Seed Details

Quantity: Approx. 50 seeds
Variety: Kitchen Sage (Salvia officinalis)
Type: Heirloom, open-pollinated, non-GMO
Lifecycle: Perennial
Origin: American grown
Height: 24-30 inches
Maturity: 75-85 days
USDA Zones: 4-9
Light: Full sun

Growing Instructions

For an easy start, sow outdoors in fall and allow the seeds to naturally stratify over winter. For spring planting, seeds require approximately 30 days of cold, moist stratification in the refrigerator before sowing.

Plant approximately 1/4 inch deep and space or thin plants 18-24 inches apart. Sage prefers average, very well-draining soil and should not be overwatered.

Packaging

Seed Therapy uses resealable, recyclable seed packets that contain no plastic and include detailed growing instructions. Seeds are also tested for germination.

About Seed Therapy

Formerly Southern Seeds, Seed Therapy was founded by Ryan and Kim Dorn in 2019, building on more than 50 years of family experience with farming, growing and seeds. Today, it’s a multi-generational family business offering more than 800 seed varieties.

We especially like their commitment to American-grown seeds and sourcing transparency. They work with trusted U.S. farms, disclose when a variety isn't grown domestically and have donated millions of seeds to schools, community gardens, churches and communities affected by natural disasters.

Why It’s In Our Cart

Heirloom, open-pollinated, non-GMO and American grown checks a lot of our boxes. We also love the practicality of growing something you'll actually reach for in the kitchen, especially a perennial that can keep producing beyond one season. Now we want to see how Seed Therapy's seeds perform in a real-life garden.
