Early Prolific Straightneck is a classic heirloom summer squash that's been grown in American gardens for generations. An All-America Selections winner, it produces smooth, lemon-yellow squash with a tender texture and mild, buttery flavor that's great grilled, sautéed, roasted or baked.

As the name suggests, this variety is an early and productive grower. Harvest the squash while they're young, around 6-8 inches long, and keep picking to encourage the plant to continue producing throughout the season.

Growing Instructions

Direct sow outdoors after the danger of frost has passed and the soil is warm. Plant seeds approximately 1 inch deep in hills of 4-5 seeds, spacing hills 3-4 feet apart. Once established, thin to the strongest 2-3 plants per hill.

Grow in rich, fertile, well-draining soil and harvest frequently when squash reach about 6-8 inches.
