The Plant That Actually Reacts to You

This one is just cool. Sensitive Plant, also known as the "shy plant," has touch-sensitive leaves that fold inward and droop when touched, then gradually reopen a few minutes later. It's the kind of plant that might actually get kids interested in growing something.

And it doesn't stop with the moving leaves. Mimosa pudica also produces fluffy pink, pom-pom-like flowers and can be grown indoors as a houseplant or outdoors as an annual in most climates.

Growing Instructions

For best results, start seeds indoors. Soaking them in warm water for approximately 24 hours before planting can help improve germination.

Plant about 1/8 inch deep in moist, well-draining potting mix. Keep the soil warm and consistently moist while seeds germinate. If growing indoors, place the plant in a very sunny window.
